Birds of Prey / Re: Workshop put in practice - part II

The Brazilian Pantanal is really a great place for birding and other wildlife. Besides hundreds of bird species, we were lucky enough to see jaguars, giant otters, caymen, capibara... .

The fly-shot is a green heron (although it is brown).
The surprised looked bird I apparently also did not identify. They were so funny, the actually came quite close.
The siluette is a blue heron.;;the lufthansa bird :D
The ibis witht he nesting material actually lived just out of our cabin. It is a buff necked ibis.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm glad you like them, it is always nice if the teacher approves :)

Just for your information.
The bird carrying the nesting material is called Jabiru aka giant stork. A very impressive big bird.
The black and white bird is indeed a kind of lapwing but i haven't been able to identify which one (i had a huge job identifying all the birds we shot!). They fly kind of irradic.
The bird basking in the sun is called 'snake bird'. They do not produce protective oilds on their feathers so after every hun they have to dry, otherwise they'll drown.
The birds in the green are a kind of flycatchers. They were so cute, they were really talking to each other and that shows on the picture!

Hey Hayo,

Last year we took the birds of prey workshop. In september went to the Pantanal in Brazil and we had a great chance to try and shoot some birds in flight...in the wild!
Here some of the results :)

Great pics!

I especially love the eagle in flight.

The course really motivated us to take more pics. We even went to the zoo and tried to shoot 'normal' animals in a better framed and interesting way. That is sooo difficult!

I totally agree about the vulture, it is indeed the least sharp photo of the whole set. I tried making it a portrait but it looks a bit strange then. Although I really like the unusual appearance of the vulture, I found it the most difficult bird to shoot.

more blushing ;-)

I will try to play a bit with the framing for the bottom three photos.

The portrait, for some reason it really appeals to me even though the bird is not looking into the lens. I can't really explain why.

You got me blushing :)

I agree about the line in the water in the barn owl pic but i must admit that I did not see it when i was choosing the photo. The wooden pole has to be removed indeed, I must admit that i am not the biggest photoshop talent but i'll give it a go!

Hey Hayo,

Thanks for the great workshop last sunday. There were always some 'mystery' functions on my camera and now there are quite a few less. I learned a lot!
Also many thanks to Carel for giving the birds a wonderful home and for providing the opportunity to us to photograph them.

In attachment some of the photos
