Tower top => agreed, the HDR washed out the colors too much. I have toned it down a bit and redid the crop
Blue => unfotunately those leaves were out of focus (even with F8!!) I have recropped the image to get rid of the blurry leaves.
Wood => I think the wood could work but only in combination with blistered paint and such.

Thanks for the useful feedback,

Cheers,
GJ.

P.s. we might look for some Urbex spots on Curacao as well :)

And 2 bonus pictures with a "wooden" theme.

Hi Pol,

Thanks again for the comments. I do have an additional idea for the taps for any future photographer (might be me): If you would change the viewpoint more to the right and lower in such a way that the taps would still be diagonally lined up but behind the window, this would even be a nicer picture.

I'm not sure if I would push the chair further to the left, it is already off center and needs some clearance from the edge.
For the last picture (2584) ...yep...it will stay very difficult to capture large objects which contain too many small objects and still create some sort of "one object" feel to it. However, it should not stop us from trying :)

Here's a couple of more photos I redid a couple of times now I'm getting a better feel/style for HDR.

Feel free to comment as usual.

Last pictures before we head out to Curacao and St.Maarten for 2 weeks :)

Cogs => you were right, the highlights were washed out. It should be much better now.
Turbine => cropped, quick fix.
Last new one => Iny and I actually disagree on this one. I totally love it, she believes I can do much better...the truth is somewhere in the middle :)

Cheers,
GJ.

Hi Hayo,

Thanks for the feedback once again. Don't worry, I'm a rower and used to aiming for perfection but that's all of the fun anyway. Once you have
it all sorted out, there is nothing more to do so I'm happy with improving myself.

Anyway, good to hear I have given you ideas for your next trip :)

Here's a couple of more photos.

Cheers,
GJ

Hi Hayo,

Thanks for the feedback. I have redone some of the pictures already.
Inside the mixing unit => cropped and lightened to have more focus on the see through aspect
Fallen chair => Cropped more
Hat => Cropped more to move the hat to the top left
Track => Cropped and straightened
The taps I will leave as is. I personally like it when you can see a certain repetition in a photo. If I would have lowered my viewpoint, I would have lost
that aspect as the first tap would hide the others. Choices, choices :)

Hi Pol,

Hayo moved my pictures to a new topic which can be found on:
http://forums.hayobaan.nl/index.php/topic,40.0.html

Iny has also posted some pictures already on:
http://forums.hayobaan.nl/index.php/topic,42.0.html

And I gues Sheryl is saving the best for last :)

Cheers,
GJ.

Hi Pol,

Great pictures, I really love the first one of the cellar. It is still amazing that we all visited the same places but the end result can be so different.
The last picture I would probably crop away the left 1 third of the image. It just looks way too busy.

Cheers,
GJ.

And one more (final shot before we left).

Couple of more pictures from the Hansa Kokerei.

Hayo, btw, we got rid of that awful velbon head (Iny has now got my Redged RNB-3) and I will upgrade to a Markins Q3.

Cheers,
GJ.

Hi Hayo and Pol,

I have used your feedback to improve my images.
Window => straightened
Cellar => added a bit of hdr effect and straightened
Wheels => Cut off the big wheel and flipped horizontally.
I agree on the picture of the tower although I might keep it and turn it into a silhouette (see if that works better).

I'm still working on the Kokerei so expect more pictures to come.

Cheers,
GJ.

The cellar - redone with the lighting redone

Hi Pol,

Thanks for the very useful feedback. For me, it is usually a choice between using HDR for a nicely balanced photo with a bit of extra contrast or to push it over the top. The big wheel indeed can go as it distracts too much. The rusted ovens look was done by adding extra structure to the photo to give it that extra grungy look. I'll further tune the cellar photo as it really deserves a spot on my wall :)
I also noticed you really need to be careful with tilting your camera with wide angle as otherwise you will get lots of distortion on the edges.

Cheers,
GJ.

2 extra pictures with the cellar photo which tuned out real great (thanks Maartje for assisting with the flash :) )

Wow Pol, I'm impresed with your pictures, really nice work. I'm almost afraid to show you mine ;)

Anyway, here's a couple of mine, I'm not completely happy with the post processing yet but they're not half bad.
