Industrial Heritage April 27-28th 2013
« on: 02/05/2013, 15:40:35 »
Hi the group "Gerrit-Jan, Iny, Sheryl, Maartje, Hayo, Pol", I am Pol and very happy of this fabulous opportunity I had to shoot in the places where we had access to in Dortmund, thanks to Hayo !   All members of previous groups are of course welcome here !
This place is supposed to be the place where we are able to share our experience, to comment our work, to help eachother, this is great !!
I started to process a small part of my photos, here are 4 of them in joined files, they are in low definition due to the restriction for posting.  You can also view some more pictures that are processed on my website: 'www.geosolve.be' (choose the chapter "photos last minute").

Please feel free to comment, to ask questions and to share you own work !
friendly Yours,
Pol

Hi Pol,

Thank you for posting your images. Very nice!

Here's some feedback:
  • Cokery after sunset: I like the feeling of speed the the converging lines in the middle of the image give me. As with your other images here, your processing has given the images a nice moody feel too.
  • Stairs: Well done. Like the composition and the way the light is directed.
  • Mixing unit: For me the least of the four. Good to try a skewed image every once in a while, but this one just doesn't work for me (but I'm know for my fondness of straight lines, guess that may be my exact background).
  • Mixing unit at sunset: This big massive building is pretty hard to get into a nice composition. You have done well here. Not only composition wise, but also by getting the sunset to work for you!

Looking forward to more from everyone (and yes, I'll post some of mine too, but with new assignments as well as a backlog of >12.000 images, this may take a while…)

Hi Pol,

Great pictures, I really love the first one of the cellar. It is still amazing that we all visited the same places but the end result can be so different.
The last picture I would probably crop away the left 1 third of the image. It just looks way too busy.

Cheers,
GJ.

Hi GJ,
Thank you !
Yes indeed we had a diiferent approach in the cellar, I need to reduce the highlights a little because I loose too much details, this is already in my planning.
I totally agree with you for cropping seriously the last one, really distracting too much and brings nothing more in the image !
Where are the pics of our other 2 days collegues ?  I had like to see their own approach too, it is always interesting.

See you soon here with the next images !
Pol

Hi Pol, good ones again!

  • Cellar: Great! Lovely reflections. Hope my similar one works out well too.
  • Wheel: Always a favourite one for many of the participants. Good deep colours.
  • Three wheels: GOOD! Like the simplicity of this one. Moody sky works for me too.
  • Mine cart: They always attract my eye too, but like GJ commented already, this one is way too busy for me. I'm not sure how to fix this easily here though.

Thanks again for sharing! Looking out for more from the rest of us   :)

Hi Pol,

Nice ones again  8)

  • Scrap yard: Good structure and colours!
  • Dril: Hmm, not sure about this one. Both the composition and the colours are a bit unbalanced, I think.
  • Machine: I quite like this one. Composition and details work for me.
  • Scrap yard 2: Good! Like the fact that it looks as if I'm looking at two images. The most exciting one of your last batch.
Colours are a bit too green to my liking, but that should be easily fixable.

:D
